The story of Eco Kanduk Venture began humbly, on the last bench of a classroom at Kathmandu University. Four visionary students noticed a pressing environmental issue often overlooked — the discarded banana pseudo stems from Nepal’s farms. While these stalks were treated as agricultural waste, their decomposition released harmful greenhouse gases such as methane and carbon dioxide, contributing silently to climate change.
Instead of accepting this as the norm, these students asked themselves: Could this waste be transformed into something valuable and sustainable? This question sparked the birth of EcoKanduk, a venture aimed at turning banana pseudo stem waste into eco-friendly fibers, which could then be crafted into a variety of sustainable products.
With a clear vision, they designed plans to manufacture a machine capable of extracting natural fibers from banana waste. Their innovative concept earned them a pre-seed funding of NPR 5 lakh through the Startup Funding and Incubation Program at NTIC, Kathmandu University. This support helped convert their idea into a working prototype and slowly into a thriving enterprise.
The journey was far from easy. Nepal’s limited infrastructure for innovation and manufacturing posed significant challenges. Yet, their determination and passion turned obstacles into opportunities. Their breakthrough was recognized when EcoKanduk won the Youth Innovation Grant Award 2023 and the National Business Idea Competition 2024 — milestones that validated their mission and potential.

Encouraged by success and inspired by possibilities, EcoKanduk expanded its horizons beyond banana fiber. The company started exploring other natural fibers such as hemp, nettle, and cotton, promoting these sustainable materials not only across Nepal but globally.
In 2025, EcoKanduk took a significant step toward preserving Nepal’s rich cultural heritage by reviving the carpet industry. The company began producing premium Nepali rugs, crafted entirely from locally sourced raw materials. This move was more than business; it was a statement that answered a critical question: Will the younger generation return to Nepal’s traditional carpet industry?
EcoKanduk says yes — but with a clear vision, uncompromising quality, and a sustainability-driven approach. By weaving stories of eco-consciousness and craftsmanship, the company positions Nepali carpets on the global stage, blending tradition with modern demand.
Today, EcoKanduk has partnered with over 200 national and international organizations, providing sustainable merchandise that reflects the highest standards of ethical manufacturing and branding. Their mission is bold yet grounded: to elevate Himalayan natural fibers to international prominence, sharing the story of Nepal’s handwork, quality, and environmental stewardship with the world.
EcoKanduk Venture is not just a company — it’s a movement toward a greener future, rooted in the wisdom of nature and the spirit of innovation.
